Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS)
When Emily and I first started working together, she was very afraid of having to cope with her illness on her own. She felt betrayed by the carers and friends who had ended up "dropping" her and she felt isolated. We soon identified she felt out of control because of the losses in her life which included relationships and the places she was no longer able to go due to the severe MCS. Due to her extreme lack of energy, we agreed to work for a maximum of one hour each session.
Each session, we worked on specific aspects of her extreme anxiety, such as financial concerns, renting the house, the relationship with her brother and many of her symptoms began improving. One of the biggest shifts for Emily was realising it wasn't her fault she was ill even though she'd done everything the doctors had recommended. After nine sessions, many of her severe allergies had dramatically reduced, eg. perfume, cigarette smoke, specific clothes, eye glasses and carpet, as had the fear surrounding them. After twelve sessions, her energy had increased to such an extent that she had been able to complete the book she'd been writing for many years, and send it in to the publishers. Now she is exercising on a treadmill in her home and able to make fairly regular trips to local large and small stores, mostly without her protective mask.
Fear of Flying
Judy was very frightened of flying but was determined to enjoy her twice-yearly holiday with her husband. Using EFT, we addressed specific aspects of her fear: looking out of the window, how the plane stayed in the air, not wanting to leave her seat once the plane had taken off, and take-off itself. Within two sessions, we had neutralized these fears completely and she felt confident about her upcoming holiday in a few weeks time. Upon her return, she reported that she had felt in control and calm during take off, and had tapped whenever she felt any anxiety. During the outbound and return flights she had left her seat (first time ever) and had enjoyed looking out of the window while feeling secure. She now flies regularly, feeling confident and safe.
Chronic Diabetic Neuropathy Pain
John was diagnosed with diabetes over 30 years ago and the severe pains in his hands and feet had started 5 years ago. As we talked during the first session, I learned he had had a number of very serious health issues over the years, including crucial surgery which had gone wrong. He was very angry and distrusted doctors and surgeons so we used EFT on this specific aspect. After the first session, he called saying the five year "block of pain" had completely disappeared and changed to a tingling sensation. I suggested he was holding the anger in his hands and feet and we worked on the changes he could implement in his life in the second session. During the third session, the pain had altered once more and was in specific areas of his feet. By the end of that session, the intense pain had cleared and his anger was far less. John chose to use EFT on himself from then on, satisfied with what we'd achieved.
Panic Attacks at Night
Gemma had been experiencing night time panic attacks for some time following a very stressful time at work (she was on leave when I met her). She told me she would wake up in the night, knowing she was about to have an attack. A few days after the first session of EFT, she reported sleeping more soundly and feeling a little more in control when she did wake up, plus the symptoms were less intense. We worked on each symptom: racing heart, pounding in her head, sweating, and a sense of no control. After the second session, she said she'd woken up in the night on several occasions and felt "normal", unafraid and in control. After a third EFT session, she is now sleeping very well and the panic attacks have stopped.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia
Maureen was working as a massage therapist, struggling with very low energy levels and joint pain: chronic symptoms of CFS and Fibromyalgia. During the first session, she disclosed she was in the process of separating from her husband, having to find a new place to live and was anxious about her financial situation. During the course of fortnightly sessions for five months we worked on her anxieties, lack of self-esteem, physical symptoms and future plans. As her energy and self worth improved, she was able to take on more of her own clients and started working from a second clinic. Like me, she was so impressed by the profound effects of EFT she decided to train with me to become an EFT Practitioner. She is now in full control of her illness, pacing her lifestyle and able to enjoy life.
Overwhelm and Anxiety after birth of daughter
Quite a few aspects came up when I worked for only one session with Stephanie. Her daughter was less than a year old and Stephanie was afraid to go out with her because she cried so much, and felt lonely when she was at home with her. We worked on her feelings of overwhelm and being stuck and these neutralized quickly. Then we addressed her concern regarding "doing it right" and the stress she felt when her baby cried. Now Stephanie goes out regularly with her daughter and feels calm and centred when she cries. She is also working more hours in her business.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and "Humming" in the Head
I was approached by Susan because she felt EFT could help her MS symptoms and the incessant humming she had in her head. As we started talking, she explained she struggled with procrastination and this exhausted her since she was always trying to figure things out in her head. She was struggling financially and was trying to establish a home business but kept striving for the perfect opportunity without getting anywhere. Over the course of our sessions, we worked on her "living in a constant state of crisis" and what it reminded her of in her past. We used EFT to clear issues of guilt and desperation and she started to feel balanced and in control.
By the fifth session, she realised how effective she was becoming in developing her home business. Her energy levels were far higher. The familiar feeling of being "boxed in" had gone and she was able to limit the amount of time she spent on the computer because her work had become more ordered. There were no longer any deadlines because she had started pacing herself. As this was happening, the humming was drastically reducing and Susan became able to gauge what caused or aggravated the humming and use EFT on her own to reduce it. I'm happy to report that after six sessions, Susan reported she had returned her walking cane to her MS specialist.
